Fix nForce 680i SLI critical errors
NVIDIA released the NV121906 patch in December 2006 for the 680i SLI chips. This fix was released because users received a “disconnect or write error” error message on SATA hard drives with these chips. This update has been released specifically for SATA HDD and system instability. Here are some examples of the problems that users had:
- Sudden application termination
- Damaged boot sector
- BSOD
- Corrupted data
To solve them, BIOS firmware was released only for some nForce 680i SLI chips to "cure" these symptoms. Affected Chips:
- EVGA nForce 680i SLI
- BFG nForce 680i SLI
- Biostar TF680i SLI Deluxe
- ECS PN2-SLI2 +
This update is supposed to increase the overall stability of the system and prevent subsequent instability on computers with SATA drives and on chips that require this fix. NVIDIA strongly recommends that all clients update the BIOS to the latest available version, because motherboards based on the nForce 680i can allow this, regardless of whether they experienced problems or not. NVIDIA also notified that by installing this update, the current user settings will be saved.
