Study History
The star is visible to the naked eye, so astronomers have watched it since ancient times. In Chinese chronicles, it is known as 左 轄 ( pinyin : Zuǒxiá), which means “wheel check”. In the Bayer notation, the star was named η Crow, since it is inferior in brightness to the other six stars from α Crv to Crv . This name behind it was fixed in modern astronomy.
η Crow has been of interest to astronomers for a long time. Data obtained by the orbital observatory IRAS , showed an excess of infrared radiation in the spectrum of the star. In 2011, astronomers announced the discovery of a massive dust disk in the system.
Characteristics
η Crow is a main - class F star with a mass and radius of 1.4 and 1.6 solar, respectively. [1] The surface temperature is about 6830 Kelvin . The star's age is estimated at about 1.1 billion years.
