History
On December 24, 1979, Pope John Paul II issued the bull Rerum usu docti , which established the territorial prelature of Ipil, singling it out from the Zamboanga Archdiocese.
On May 1, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI issued the bull Quandoquidem Praelatura , which transformed the territorial prelature of Ipilos into the diocese.
