Ingo Appelt was born on December 11, 1961 in Innsbruck , the federal state of Tyrol . After graduating from high school, he moved to Fulpmes municipality, where he entered a technical school, studied the design and manufacture of jewelry. He began to perform in a bobsled on a professional level in the mid-1980s and from the very beginning began to show good results, he got into the national team of Austria as a pilot. Thanks to a series of successful performances, in 1988 he was invited to defend the country's honor at the Calgary Olympics, competed in a pair with the overclocking Harald Winkler , but could not take prizes there, having arrived fifth in the two and seventh in the four.

The main successes in Appelt's career are related to overclocking partner Thomas Schroll . After completing his career as a professional athlete, as a member of the Austrian Freedom Party , he ran for MP in the Tyrolean Parliament, but soon left politics and returned to his previous occupation - the production of jewelry.
