The external oblique muscle of the abdomen ( lat. Musculus obliquus externus abdominis ) is located on the front and side surfaces of the abdomen and partially the chest. The widest of the abdominal muscles. The muscle begins with 7-8 large teeth on the outer surface of the V — XII ribs. The external oblique muscle of the abdomen is attached to the outer lip of the iliac crest, pubic symphysis , white line of the abdomen .

Functions
With bilateral contraction, the external oblique muscle of the abdomen lowers the ribs, bends the spine, when lying on the back, the muscle raises the pelvis, with unilateral contraction, it turns the body in the opposite direction. The muscle is part of the abdominal muscles.
Innervation
Lower intercostal nerves (Th5-Th11), iliac-hypogastric nerve (Th12-L1), iliac-inguinal nerve (L1).
Blood supply
Posterior intercostal, lateral thoracic, superficial, envelope of the iliac artery.
