Shevelevy

Shevelev - two Russian noble families , dating back to the beginning of the XVII century and recorded in the sixth part of the genealogical books: the first Kostroma province (the emblem of this kind was included in the XII part of the General Armorial ), the second - Saratov and Smolensk . There are some more noble families of the Shevelevs, of later origin [1] [2] .

Shevelev is a very common, nevertheless dark surname by etymology. The basis - Shevel - was in ancient times distributed as a personal name. From the verbs "move", "move"? Or from the forgotten verb “to move” is the same as to lisp: however, the nominal “moving” is not fixed in that or in any other meaning. It is not excluded that the Shevel - from the Tatar "Shevel", or "Shawval" - the name of the tenth month of the Muslim lunar year and personal name [3] .

Emblem Description

In a gold shield, cross two lighted torches with a scarlet flame.

The shield is crowned with a noble crowned helmet. Crest: two crosswise lit torches with a scarlet flame. The mark : on the right is black with gold, on the left is scarlet with gold. The coat of arms of the Shevelev family is included in Part 12 of the General Armorial of the noble families of the All-Russian Empire, p. 81. [4]
