Mariam Yusuf Jamal ( ar . مريم يوسف جمال; real name Zenebech Tola Kotu ; born September 16, 1984 ) is a Bahraini athlete of Ethiopian origin. Specializes in running for 1500 meters. Olympic champion of the Games in London at this distance.

Biography
Born in a small village in the province of Arsi , Ethiopia . In the same village, the legendary Haile Gebreselassie was born. Like all the other children of this area, she tried to achieve the same success as their famous compatriot. I went to school daily - 16 kilometers a day. Began athletics beginning at the age of 15 years. Originally acted in the sprint and in the high jump , and only a year later she moved to medium distances . In 2002 she entered the Muger Sports Club in Addis Ababa . In 2002 she moved to Switzerland to compete in competitions in Europe. She asked for political asylum in Switzerland, but her request was rejected. In 2004, she took the 2nd place at the stage of the Diamond League Weltklasse Zürich at a distance of 3000 meters.
On the international stage she made her debut in 2003 at Atletissim , where she took the last place in the 3000 meters race . In 2005 she received Bahraini citizenship, and since then began to advocate for her new homeland. Became the winner of the Eurocross motocross run in 2011.
Won the World Cup 2007 with a score of 3.58.75.
Personal records: 3000 meters - 8.28.87; 5000 meters - 14.51,68.
Personal life
Since 2006 she has been married to Tarek Sabtom Jakub, who is also her trainer.
