Winning Logo

The winning logo was created by Predrag Stakic from Serbia and combines the silhouettes of a hand and a bird. The logo should be perceived as a peaceful contribution to the promotion of human rights and, as such, to find distribution despite cultural and linguistic barriers.

The new logo of human rights is now available to all people as a work of “open access”. It is free from any rights and can be used by everyone, at any time and around the world without paying duties or obtaining permits.

Competition

The aim of the competition was to create a globally recognized symbol of human rights. To do this, on May 3, 2011 ( World Press Freedom Day ), a worldwide online contest was launched with an appeal to all people on the planet to send logo design projects and cast their votes for the submitted projects.

From more than 15 300 proposals from more than 190 countries of the world, a jury of prominent personalities from July 2011 selected the top ten projects. Of these dozens, the Internet community selected the winner logo [3] during a three-week vote.

The official completion of the competition took place on September 23, 2011 in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Winner Logo Presentation

The presentation of the winning logo took place on September 23, 2011 and was timed to coincide with the session of the UN General Assembly . The presentation was moderated by Michael Elliot, former editor-in-chief of Time magazine.

TV journalist Anne Carrie, German Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and human rights activists Caroline Gomez from Jamaica and Angelina Acheng Atiyam from Uganda emphasized the importance of this universal symbol in the fight for human rights throughout the world.

The musical climax of the evening was the performance of co-singer Jesse Norman .
