Nikolai Fedorovich Naumenko was born on October 17, 1901 in the village of Terskaya, now the Mozdok district of North Ossetia . Ukrainian according to the surname NaumNKO. And the place of resettlement of Ukrainian Cossacks.

In the Red Army since 1918. He was a Red Army soldier, then an assistant chief of horse reconnaissance, then a cavalry platoon commander and participated in the Civil War in Russia . He was twice wounded in battles.

After the war ended in 1925 he graduated from the Tver Cavalry School . In 1928 he graduated from the school of observer pilots in Leningrad, and after that he served as junior, then senior observer pilot, assistant chief, then chief of staff of the aviation squadron. In 1934 he graduated from the KUNS of the Air Force of the Red Army and since March of the same year the commander of a separate aviation detachment. In 1936 he graduated from the training courses for pilots at the 1st military school of pilots in n. p. Kacha , then from December of that year he commanded a high-speed bomber aviation squadron. Since April 1938, the commander of the 58th High-Speed ​​Bomber Aviation Regiment, since August 1938 - the 55th Light Bomber Aviation Brigade. He led the combat operations of the brigade in the Soviet-Finnish war, while personally made 25 sorties. In the summer of 1940 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Mixed Aviation Division. After the start of World War II, N.F. Naumenko was appointed deputy commander of the Air Force of the Western Front. Acting in the difficult situation of the initial period of the war, he organized combat operations of aviation in the Smolensk direction. October 29, 1941 he was awarded the military rank of "Major General of Aviation." Since November 1941, the commander of the Air Force of the Western Front, who participated in the battle of Moscow . From September 1942 to May 1943 he commanded the 4th Air Army. He led the combat operations of aviation in the Battle of the Caucasus , air battles in the Kuban, as well as with the support of ground forces in the Krasnodar offensive operation . As part of the Bryansk Front, army pilots fought during the Oryol and Bryansk offensive operations. After the war, until May 1950, N. F. Naumenko continued to command the 15th Air Army, then at the disposal of the Commander- in- Chief of the Air Force .

July 7, 1967 died in a car accident.
