Chess career

In 1957, at the age of 16, Ilga Klavinja won the Riga Women's Chess Championship. In 1958, she represented the Latvian national team at the USSR team championship in chess in Vilnius on a blackboard for a girl (like Zenit) (+1, = 4, -3). [1] In 1968, she achieved the greatest success in her career when she shared with Sarma Sedleniec the first place in the Latvian Women's Chess Championship , but lost to her an additional match for the title of Latvian champion - 1.5: 3.5. Three more times Ilga Klavinja won the bronze medals of the Latvian Women's Championship - in 1958, 1970 and 1971. [2] And in his mature years, Ilga Klyavin continues to participate in chess competitions. In 2008, she won the Women's Vidzeme Chess Championship, [3] and in 2011, she played in the Higher League of the Latvian Team Chess Championship. [four]

Personal life

She graduated from the Riga Polytechnic Institute (now Riga Technical University ) as a process engineer. She was married to the champion of Latvia in 1952, chess master Janis Klavi ( š (1933 - 2008).
