Tournament in Toulon ( French: Tournoi de Toulon ) or the International Festival of Future Champions in Toulon and Var Department ( French: Festival International Espoirs de Toulon et du Var ) is an international football tournament held in the city of Toulon , which involves youth teams under the age of 20 years. Since 2008, Olympic teams have also been participating in the tournament.
The tournament was created in 1967 by Maurice Rivello ( Italian: Maurice Revello ); six club teams took part in it. After that, the tournament was not held for seven years. It was renewed in 1974 . This time the tournament was attended by youth national teams - Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Brazil, as well as 4 club teams - Derby County , Anderlecht , Nim Olympic and Borussia Mönchengladbach . Starting next year, exclusively national teams took part in the tournament. In 2008, the Olympic teams took part in the tournament for the first time, replacing youth teams. The age limit of football players has been increased. He began to equal, like the Olympic teams, 23 years, plus three more players over this limit.
The tournament is attended simultaneously by eight teams, which are divided into two groups. The two best teams of groups meet each other in the semifinal, which consists of one match. The winners of the semifinals meet among themselves, revealing the strongest team. Losers in the semifinals spend the match for third place. By tradition, the decisive matches of the tournament are held at the Mayol stadium .
