History
It was officially opened on June 25, 2004. The museum was created on the basis of the collection of the Irbit Motorcycle Plant (IMZ), where for more than 60 years a unique technical meeting has been formed, which served as a creative laboratory for designers, testers, and engineers. The administration of the city of Irbit, with the assistance of the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, took an active part in the creation of the museum, having bought a collection of motorcycles from the owners of the plant.
Museum Fund
The museum fund has more than 120 transport units. These are not only heavy class motorcycles, but also automobiles, all-terrain vehicles manufactured by IMZ; The museum’s technical collection is complemented by 48 internal combustion engines. The museum's collection of motorcycles is unique - it reflects the main trends in the development of domestic and world motorcycle industry, represented by models of the leading motorcycle companies in England , Germany , Italy , the USA , and Japan .
Motorcycle companies are represented in the foreign department: Royal Enfield , Vinsent HRD, Triumph , Honda , Harley Davidson , Yamaha , Gillera , Ducati , BMW , HSU , Zundapp , Norton , AJS , BSA , Ariel . [one]
The technical reports (more than 5 thousand) of scientific research institutes, the Main Armored Directorate, the All-Union Design Bureau, VNIImotoprom and others stored in the museum reveal the history of the formation of the domestic motor industry from 1940 to 2000. A special place in the museum is occupied by memorial personal funds containing information on the life path and scientific and creative activity of famous people - outstanding directors, leading designers, engineers and inventors of the IMZ, Irbitians - champions of the USSR, winners of various international motorsport competitions.
In the expositions of the museum you can get acquainted with the history of the Irbit Motor Plant (1941-1945) and the state of the world motorcycle industry until 1940; serial production models of IMZ and experimental models (1951-1995), giving an idea of the creative potential of leading factory designers; foreign-made motorcycles, allowing to trace the history of the development of the motor industry of Europe , USA , Japan from 1936 to 1989. An exposition on this topic will acquaint visitors with the life of bikers in Russia , their meetings and work. One more exposition informs about the Irbit school of motor sport, about the establishment by the Irbitians on Ural motorcycles of Guinness records .
In the activities of the museum great importance is attached to the organization and regular holding of visiting exhibitions of equipment in open areas.
