Laurence Edgar (Larry) Skog ( born Laurence Edgar (Larry) Skog , born 1943 ) is an American botanist , a specialist in the taxonomy of the Gesneria family.

Biography
Lawrence Edgar Skog was born on April 9, 1943 in Duluth , Minnesota . Larry Skog studied at the University of Minnesota in Duluth , in 1965 received a bachelor's degree. Then Skog went to Mexico to collect plant samples. In the fall of 1965, Lawrence began to study at the University of Connecticut , in 1968 he received a master's degree in science for his work on the genus Coriaria . In Connecticut, Skog met Judith Corpse, whom he married the same year. From 1968 to 1969, Skog visited various herbariums in Europe and Great Britain . In 1969, he returned to Ithaca , then traveled to Central America . In 1972, Cornell University awarded Larry Skog a Ph.D. for his work, which revised the taxonomy of the genus Gesneria . In 1973, Skog became the curator of the Department of Botany of the Smithsonian Institution , where he continued to study tropical plants. Skog collected plant samples from India , Australia , New Zealand , China , and America . Skog was also an honorary professor at the . In 2003, Lawrence retired. He is currently a member of the Linnaeus Society of London and the International Association for Plant Taxonomy .
