Gregory of Spoleto

Gregory (tormented in 304 ) is a holy martyr from Spoleto . Memorial Days - December 24 according to the Roman Martyrology , December 23 in Cologne , December 22 in Spoleto, January 2 in Trier .

St. Gregory, a priest from Spoleto, after much torment, was beheaded by order of the Emperor Diocletian on December 24, 304 . According to legend, his remains were thrown to wild beasts, which were kept for public games. However, the pious Christian, whose name remained unknown, bought them for a lot of money and prepared them for burial.

By order of the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Otto I, the relics of the saint were transferred to Cologne along with the relics of St. Felix and Set . In 993, part of the relics of the saint was transferred to Trier by Bishop Egbert.
