The Archdiocese of Yangon ( Latin: Archidioecesis Yangonensis ) is the archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church with a center in the city of Yangon , Myanmar . The Yangon Metropolitanate includes the dioceses of Pantain , Molamayna , Pia , and Phana . The cathedral of the Yangon Archdiocese is the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary .

History
In 1741, the Holy See established the Apostolic Vicariate of Ava and Pegu, separating it from the diocese of Sao Tome Meliapor (today - the Archdiocese of Madras and Melapor ). In 1856, the Apostolic Vicariate of Ava and Pegu was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of Burma.
On November 27, 1866, the apostolic vicar of Burma was divided into three new apostolic vicars of Central Burma, East Burma and South West Burma.
On July 19, 1870, Pope Pius IX issued the log Quod Catholici nominis , which renamed the Apostolic Vicariate of South West Burma into the Apostolic Vicariate of South Burma, which on May 7, 1953 became known as the Apostolic Vicariate of Rangoon.
On January 1, 1955, Pope Pius XII issued the bull Dum alterna, which transferred part of the territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Rangoon of the new Diocese of Pantein , at the same time elevating it to the rank of archdiocese. On October 8, 1991, the Rangoon Archdiocese was renamed the Yangon Archdiocese. On March 22, 1993 and January 24, 2009, the Yangon Archdiocese transferred part of its territory for the construction of the new dioceses of Molamyain and Phaan .
