Iran missile weapons

Missile weapons are being developed by Iran in an atmosphere of confrontation with Western countries , partial international isolation and with its own nuclear program , which led to the need to develop its own missile weapons .

Content

History

The main assistants in creating their own missile weapons were Russia and the DPRK . So in 1993, on the basis of the Soviet missile system Luna-M , the Zilzal missile was created.

In 1994, the Shakhab-3 ballistic missiles (the first Iranian missile capable of reaching Israeli territory [1] ) began to be developed on the basis of the North Korean Nodon missiles. By 2011, Iran had 40 missiles of this class [2] .

On August 13, 2017 , the Iranian Parliament approved a bill to increase spending on the missile program. This was in response to a recent US law allowing Washington to expand its sanctions on Tehran . [3]

Composition

Short Range Complexes:

  • Tondar (up to 150 km)
  • Fateh (less than 200 km)

Complexes of medium range :

  • Shahab
  • Kader

Ballistic :

  • Near Range Hatf -II (180 km, 2012) [4]
  • “Sajil” (range of 2 thousand km, 2008 )

Cruise missiles :

  • Meskat ("Meshkat") with a range of 2000 km or more based on the Soviet X-55 purchased in Ukraine, missiles are ready after 2012. [5] [6]
  • Triumph is the fastest sea-based KR in the world. [7]
  • There are reliably submarines based on submarines (not anti-ship missiles) [8] .
  • Nasr-e Basir - marine and land based missile defense with active maneuvering and homing.
  • Qadir - sea and land based against sea targets (up to 300 km).

Anti-ship :

  • Gader cruise missiles (range 222 km; development completed in the summer of 2011) [9] .

Also in the arsenal of Iran are various anti-ship missiles developed by the USA (Harpoon), China (C-series), Iran. [ten]

Operational Issues

In conditions of prolonged isolation, Iran was deprived of access to a number of technologies, which inevitably affected the combat effectiveness of its missile units. There is evidence of a lack of technology to keep liquid rockets on duty for a long time. Because of this, putting the latter on duty and taking him off is accompanied by lengthy and labor-intensive procedures, which inevitably affects combat efficiency [11] .

Teachings

On September 28, 2008, large-scale exercises “Maneuvers of the Great Prophet - IV” were held, on which the “Fateh”, “Tondar” and “Shahab” were tested. [12]

In January 2012, Gader, Nur (range 200 km [13] ) and Nasr [14] were tested in the Persian Gulf [15] as part of the Velayat-90 exercises (Leadership-90) [16] .

Iran Space Program

In December 2008, it became known that Iran intends to launch animals into space . In 2009, Iran acquired its own Semnan spaceport, from the territory of which the Safir-2 space launch vehicle was launched.

At the beginning of February 2010, the Pishgam capsule (the “life capsule”) was launched into space by the Kavoshgar-3 launch vehicle. On it, for the purpose of scientific research, worms , turtles and rats went into space. In 2011, Iran planned to launch a monkey into space, but this did not happen, preparatory work was stopped without explanation. On January 28, 2013, the capsule with the Pishgam monkey [17] [18] was launched into space. On December 14, 2013, Iran sent a monkey for a second time on a suborbital flight . According to the IRNA agency, the primate nicknamed Fargam spent about 15 minutes at an altitude of 120 kilometers. A booster rocket with liquid fuel was tested for the first time [19] .

Iran scheduled the launch of its own astronaut in 2021 [20] . The president of the country, Ahmadinejad , expressed hope for becoming Iran’s first astronaut at celebrations after the successful launch of a spacecraft with a monkey on board [21] .

However, in January 2015, the space program was finally phased out due to the exorbitant cost for a small country [22] .
