Biography
Born in the family of a priest.
He studied at the Borovichi Theological College. Graduate (1891) and teacher of the Novgorod Theological Seminary .
In 1893 he graduated from the regency class of the Court Singing Chapel and for many years, from 1894 to 1912 , led the bishop's choir of St. Sophia Cathedral .
A. M. Pokrovsky is the author of choral works (secular and church hymns), several dozen brochures on ancient Russian music, semiography, vocal pedagogy.
In 1910-1914 he was the publisher of the music and literary magazine "Guselki Yarovchaty", which published articles on the history of music , musical works and provincial chronicle . A. M. Pokrovsky corresponded with the publisher of the Russian Musical Newspaper , N. F. Findeisen , and for some time was a Novgorod correspondent for the publication.
In 1920-1921, he continued to engage in choral art as the head of the music section of the Novgorod UONO and the head of the singing circle. Left without work approx. 1927 , but being by that time one of the oldest members of the Novgorod society of lovers of antiquities, A. M. Pokrovsky continued to actively participate in his activities.
According to unconfirmed reports, Arkady Mikhailovich died during the bombing of Novgorod in August 1941.
