Biography
Born into a strict Calvinist family in Paris in 1609 or 1610. She was one of seven children, her brother, Isaac Moyon, also became an artist. Her father, Nicholas, was a landscape painter and portrait painter, and an art dealer, and her mother, Marie Gilbert, was the daughter of a jeweler. Louise received her first drawing lessons from her father, but he died when she was 10 years old. The following year, mother Muillon married another artist and art dealer, François Garnier. Garnier taught Muillon art. The Muillon family lived in the Parisian district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where there were many Protestant refugees from the Netherlands, including artists. These artists introduced Muillon to their traditional style of still life, which influenced the development of her special style. She has lived all her life in Paris. Louise Moyon died of heart disease in 1696.
