Corosel [3] ( English Corozal District ) is one of the districts of Belize . Located in the northern part of the country. It borders with Mexico (in the north-west), as well as with the districts of Belize (in the south-east) and Orange Walk (in the south-west). In the east and northeast is washed by the waters of the Caribbean . The area is 1860 km². The population for 2010 is 40 354 people. The population density is 21.70 people / km². The administrative center is the city of Corozal .

The most common language is Spanish, the second most common is English.
Economy
For many years, the district has specialized in the sugar industry, having its own sugar factory in the village of Libertad, but today its economy is more diversified. The production of sugar and other crops, such as papaya, is still central to the lives of many people from Coro Sula, mostly rural residents, but the proportion of people employed in the tourism industry is gradually becoming more prominent. Now almost 65% of the local population depends on a commercial free zone [4] , which is located on the border of Belize and Mexico.
Smuggling is the largest source of revenue growth in Corosal, since it closely adjoins Mexico and has a long, poorly protected border with it. Illegal trade is carried out in such goods as vegetables, fruits, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, gasoline.
