Biography
Marianne Timmer achieved her first victories in 1997 - she won the Dutch sprint all-around championship and became the world champion at a distance of 1000 meters.
At the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, she won at distances of 1000 and 1500 m, setting a second world record in the second distance.
At the next Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, she could not win a single podium, becoming fourth in 1000 meters.
At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, she was among the favorites at distances of 500 and 1000 meters. She was disqualified for a second false start at a short distance, and a few days later she won her crown distance of 1000 m, entering the top three athletes in the Netherlands who managed to win three gold medals of the Winter Olympics.
She planned to participate in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, but was injured at the World Cup in November 2009, faced with a rival and ended her career ahead of schedule. [1] Timmer fled with Chinese woman Yu Jing , who fell at the exit of the last small turn and hit Timmer, after which both crashed into a soft fence at high speed. [2]
He currently works as a trainer in the Dutch commercial team Team Liga.
Married to Henk Timmer , a former football goalkeeper. The first husband, Peter Muller , was her personal trainer.
Achievements
- Championship of the Netherlands - 11 times won at individual distances, 10 times won the sprint all-around.
- Olympic Games - three gold medals.
- World Championship at separate distances - two gold per 1000 m, two silver per 1000 m, one bronze per 500, 1000 and 1500 m.
- Sprint All-Around World Championship - one gold (2004) and one bronze (2000).
