Code stamp - a form, a stencil with reference marks for filling in numerical data and simplifying their further recognition by automated means. This form is most widely used in postal services , where it is used as an index grid on postal envelopes and cards .

Description

In the State standard of the Russian Federation "GOST R 51506-99. Envelopes are postal. Technical requirements. Control Methods ”(2000) gives the following definition of a code stamp:

Code stamp - a stencil for writing the digits of the index of the mailing object of the addressee with reference marks that provide machine reading of these numbers.

Thus, the postal code stamp is a guide index grid for applying the postal code of the communication company of the destination when forwarding the postal item .

History

In the USSR, an index grid began to be printed in the lower left corner of the whole things produced by the USSR Ministry of Communications since 1970 [1] when switching to automatic sorting of mail items.

In November 2009, Russian Post announced the opening of Russia 's first automated sorting center using modern sorting technology. In this regard, the federal postal operator launched the campaign "Write the index correctly" [1] .
