Black-and-yellow piebald tanager [2] ( lat. Chrysothlypis chrysomelas ) is a species of bird from the tanager family. They live in subtropical and tropical low-lying wet forests of Costa Rica and Panama , at an altitude of 350-1600 meters above sea level [3] . The weight of one bird is about 13 grams [3] .

There are three subspecies [1] :
- Chrysothlypis chrysomelas titanota - area - mountain slopes in the north of Costa Rica, facing the coast of the Caribbean Sea , from the province of Alajuela ( Cerro Santa Maria region of Spain ) south along the eastern foot of the Cordillera Central and Cordillera de Talamanca to the border with Panama ;
- Chrysothlypis chrysomelas chrysomelas - from the western part of the Chiriqui province east to Altos de Campana (western Panama);
- Chrysothlypis chrysomelas ocularis - in the eastern part of Panama, from Cerro Hefe ( Spanish Cerro Jefe ) (and the Pacific mountain slopes in the province of Darien ) east to Cerro Takarkun (northwestern Colombia ).
