Blatnograd ( Hungarian Mosaburg , Slovak. Blatnohrad , German Mosapurc, Moosburg , Slovenian. Blatograd, Blatenski Kostel ), the capital of the Old Slavic principality of Blatensky in Pannonia, on the Zala River, 9 km south-west of Lake Balaton . Nowadays, on the site of an early medieval Slavic city, there are the village of Zalavar , the county of Zala ( Hungary ).

History
Blatnograd was founded by the Moravian prince Pribina around 839 - 847 . In 850, the first church was built and consecrated here - St. Mary and the fortress. It was consecrated by the Salzburg Archbishop of Liupram. In 867, Cyril and Methodius stayed in Blatnograd. A few years later, Methodius returned here at the invitation of Prince Koczel and founded the Pannonian Archbishopric here. In 901, Blatnograd was captured by the Hungarians . A little later, under the name "Zalavar" became the center of the committee of the Hall . It was a strategically important fortress. In 1702 , the Zalavar fortress was blown up so that it did not fall into the hands of the Kuruts . Since then, the city fell into decay and the current village of Zalavar has only 900 inhabitants.
Archaeological work
The remains of churches (15) and hillforts (150x200 meters) were discovered by Slovak scientist Jan Kollar in the 19th century . According to excavations, and after entering the Kingdom of Hungary , up to the XI century, the population of Blatnograd was predominantly Slavic . The process of Magyarization intensified in the XII-XIII centuries, and especially during the XIX century. Nowadays, mainly Hungarians live in the city.
