Biography
In 1953 he graduated from the Physics Faculty of the Leningrad State University. A. A. Zhdanov specialty " geophysics ".
In the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1953:
- 1953-1954 - at the Institute of Permafrost them. V. A. Obrucheva Academy of Sciences of the USSR , Moscow,
- 1954-1961 - Junior Researcher of the Yakut Permafrost Station,
- 1961-1963 - Head of the Laboratory of Thermal Reclamation of Frozen Rocks,
- 1963—1989 - head of the laboratory of geothermy,
- 1989—2001 - Deputy Director of the Institute of Permafrost. PI Melnikov, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences ( Yakutsk ),
- since 2001 - advisor of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1994), Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences (1989). Member of the Presidium of the Yakut Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Joint Scientific Council on Earth Science of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Joint Scientific Council on Earth Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Sakha Republic (Yakutsk). Member of the Scientific Councils of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Earth Cryology and Geothermy, member of the National Committee on the Climate and Cryosphere international project. Member of the editorial boards of several scientific journals.
He died on September 4, 2011 in Yakutsk . He was buried at the Moscow Troyekurovsky cemetery (section 20) [1] .
Scientific Activities
The founder of the scientific direction in geocryology is the geothermy of the frozen zone of the lithosphere . Main activities:
- development of theoretical principles of application of thermal reclamation methods for the development of frozen diamond placers,
- development of theoretical foundations for managing the processes of freezing and thawing of rocks,
- study of the relationship of deep freezing and thickness of the frozen strata with climatic, geodynamic, geotectonic conditions and intraterrestrial heat flow, determining the geothermal state of the upper crust of Northeast Asia.
He built models of paleoreconstruc- tion of the dynamics of the thermal field of the lithosphere, maps of the temperature of frozen rocks, intraterrestrial heat flow and thickness of stationary frozen strata for the entire Asian territory of Russia. Under his leadership, a unique catalog of the intraterrestrial heat flow of the Siberian platform and the Verkhoyansk-Chukotka mountain-folded area was compiled and published, and their first map of the scale 1: 5000000 was created.
He carried out research to clarify the causes of global warming and assess the response of the cryolithozone to an increase in air temperature. Using mathematical models, it showed the possibility of fresh groundwater in the under-permafrost zone at a depth of up to several hundred meters, which are formed due to thermal compression processes with changes in the thickness of the frozen strata during the Pleistocene period.
Awards and titles
- Awarded the Order of Friendship (1997) [2]
- He was awarded the medal of the Order for Services to the Fatherland, II degree (2008) [3] , other medals
- Honored Worker of the National Economy of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1986).
