Ministry of Emergency Situations and Human Rights (Sri Lanka)

The Ministry of Emergency Situations and Human Rights (Sri Lanka) is responsible for:

  • Planning and implementing disaster mitigation and prevention policies and creating a realistic approach to response and recovery
  • Compilation of a national disaster management plan based on national policy
  • Disaster management and management under Act No. 13 (2005)
  • Initiation and coordination of foreign automated disaster mitigation and recovery projects
  • Coordination and management of natural and technological disasters
  • Coordination of awareness-raising programs on natural and man-made disasters
  • Early warning systems
  • Oversight of the activities of NGOs and the social protection of voluntary institutions in relation to provisions to facilitate and promote human rights
  • Assistance and assistance to non-governmental organizations and social protection of volunteer institutions in the field of disaster management and human rights .
  • Promotion of human rights
  • Coordination of activities in accordance with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other international and regional human rights institutions.
