The 13th BAFTA Film Merit Award Ceremony for 1959 was held in London in 1960 .
In the nomination “Best Film” there were films from the USA (“Anatomy of Murder”, “Ben-Gur”, “Big Country”, “Only Girls Are in Jazz”, “Gizhi”, “Nun's History”, “Violence”), Poland ( “Ashes and a Diamond”), France (“Megre spreads his snares”), Sweden (“Face”) and five more paintings from Great Britain , also noted in the category “Best British Film” [1] .
This year, three additional categories appeared: “Best Short Film” (the award in this nomination is still awarded), “Best Specialized Film” (the nomination lasted until 1979 ) and the “ Robert Flaherty Award for the Best Documentary” ( A prize in this category was awarded almost annually until 1987 ).
