Biography

He graduated with honors from the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute (1968). Since 1965 he has been working at the Oncology Research Institute named after N. N. Petrova , where since 1987 he has been the head of the carcinogenesis and aging laboratory and since 1999 the department of carcinogenesis and oncogerontology [2] . He prepared 11 doctors and 27 candidates of sciences [3] .

Editor-in-chief of the Successes of Gerontology journal and the Bulletin of the Gerontological Society of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Member of the editorial boards of the journals Clinical Gerontology (Moscow), Elder Generation (Samara); “Problems of aging and longevity” (Kiev); “Aging (Albany, NY)” (USA); Current Aging Science (Indianapolis, USA); Current Gerontology and Geriatrics Research (New York, USA); "Experimental Gerontology" (Elsevier); “Geriatric & Medical Intelligence” (Milan, Italy); "Journal of Experimental and Integrative Medicine"; The Open Longevity Journal (USA); Turkish Journal of Geriatrics;

  • President of the Gerontological Society at the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 1994); Member of the Commission on Carcinogenic Substances of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; member of the problem commission "Chronobiology and Chronomedicine" RAMS; RAS expert; member of the Council of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) and the Council of the IAGG European Branch; WHO expert (International Chemical Safety Program); Expert, WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer (Lyon, France); UN Aging Program Expert;
  • Chairman of the Council of the Satellite Center of the United Nations Institute for Aging for Eastern Europe (St. Petersburg); Member of the Scientific Council of the FUTURAGE Program of the European Union;
  • Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (since 2008; corresponding member since 1996).

Anisimov found that when exposed to various chemical carcinogenic agents in the animal’s body, the development of hormonal-metabolic disorders inherent in natural aging and contributing to the carcinogenesis process is accelerated. He experimentally established the fundamental laws of the influence of age on the sensitivity of the body to the action of various carcinogenic agents (exogenous and endogenous), which underlie the age-related increase in the frequency of malignant neoplasms.
