World coming down

World Coming Down is the fifth studio album of the American doom / gothic metal band Type O Negative , released in 1999 . This album did not, like the previous one, lead to a more melodic and calm sound, on the contrary, it became much darker and dirtier in sound.

After the end of another successful world tour in support of October Rust Type O Negative, they began recording a new (fifth) studio album. Since the release of October Rust , Peter Steel has experienced several deaths for his loved ones. Steele experienced severe depression and went into a binge for some time and started taking drugs. During a course on drug and alcohol rehabilitation, he was abandoned by a girlfriend with whom he lived for a couple of years. Peter smashes the face of this woman’s husband and is sent to Rikers Prison in Rhode Island before returning to the rehabilitation center. All this is reflected in the new album, called World Coming Down , released in 1999. Compared to the rather bright sound both in sound and in October Rust texts, on World Coming Down the sound became more dark and depressing, the sound became more “doomic”, reminiscent of the first Slow album , Deep & Hard . Lyrics tell about the author’s gloomy moods: death, drugs, depression and suicide. Songs from the album with the distinctive names of "Everyone I Love is Dead", "Everything Dies" and "World Coming Down" show the state of Steel. Interludes between songs have become more atmospheric and intimidating. Even with such an extremely gloomy and dark sound, World Coming Down climbed 39th on the list of Billboard's 200 most popular albums.
