Vorspiel [1] - Sportverein für Schwule und Lesben Berlin (abbreviated as: Vorspiel SSL Berlin ) is a sports society for gays and lesbians in Berlin , with more than 1.1 thousand members. It is the largest sports LGBT association in Germany and one of the largest in Europe [2] . Currently, the club offers its members more than 30 sports [3] [4] . The club is open to representatives of all sexual orientations and gender identities [5] .

Content
History
The Vorspiel Club was founded on November 11, 1986 under the name Schwuler Sportverein Vorspiel - Sports Association for Gays after the first Gay Games in San Francisco . In the first years of work at the club, only men trained, the first female members appeared in 1992, after which the club was renamed, also having the addition “for lesbians” in its name [6] .
The club is a member of numerous sports unions, in connection with which it has the right to officially exhibit its members at various competitions. Since 1989, Vorspiel is also a member of the Berlin Regional Land Sports Union ( it’s. Landessportbund ). It should be noted that the club had to seek admission to this union through the courts, since the refusal of membership was due to the “repulsive name” [7] . In 1992, the Schwuler Sportverein Vorspiel applied to join the Berlin Athletics Union ( German: Berliner Leichtathletikverband ), which the club was denied again because of the provocative name [8] . The fact is that in German one of the meanings of the word “Vorspiel” is also “ sexual prelude ”, and in the athletes' union they considered the presence of the words “gay” and “prelude” in one phrase to have sexual overtones [9] . The refusal was appealed in court, but the claim was rejected [10] . The controversy lasted until 1998. And only after renaming the club in Vorspiel - Sportverein für Schwule und Lesben Berlin (with the semantic separation of the words Vorspiel and schwul ) did the union of athletes have to accept the club into their ranks [11] [12] .
Since 1989, Vorspiel is also a member of the International Federation of Gay Games , and since 1995 - a member of the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation . In 1996, Vorspiel also participated in the organization and conduct of the European Games in Berlin.

Germany's champion in swimming on his back at a distance of 50 meters in the age group of 45-50 years (time - 00: 28.66) [17] [18] . Three-time gold medalist GayGames 2010 in Cologne [19] and two-time gold medalist EuroGames 2001 in Hannover [20] .
- Ulrike Folkerts ( German: Ulrike Folkerts ) is a silver and bronze medalist in swimming at Gay Games 2002 in Sydney [21] and a bronze medalist in EuroGames 2004 in Munich [22] .
