Marta Argerich , Archerich [5] ( Spanish Martha Argerich ; born June 5, 1941 , Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine pianist . Since 1955 lives in Europe (since 2003 - in Brussels).

Biography

Born in the family of Juanita Heller and Juan Manuel Argerich, economists and activists of the socialist movement. Maternal grandmother and grandfather were Jewish immigrants from Russia who settled in one of the agricultural colonies of Baron de Hirsch and the Jewish Colonization Society (Colonia Villa Clara) in the province of Entre Rios [6] [7] . She began playing at the age of three, and made her public debut with Mozart's concert performance at age eight. In 1955, the family moved to Europe, Marta studied with Friedrich Gould , Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli , Stefan Ashkenazi , Nikita Magalov [8] .

Recognition

In 1957 she became the winner of the International Competition of Performers in Geneva and the International Busoni Piano Competition , in 1965 - the winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. In 2005 - Grammy Award winner for the best performance of chamber music ( Prokofiev , Ravel , together with M. Pletnev ), in 2006 - for the best instrumental performance with an orchestra ( Beethoven , with Claudio Abbado and the Malerovsky Chamber Orchestra). Awarded the Imperial Prize of Japan (2005). A documentary by Georges Gacheau “Marta Argerich: Night Talk” (2002) [9] was shot about her. Inducted into the Gramophone Magazine Hall of Fame [10] .

Performing Arts and Creative Relationships

An outstanding performer of European piano music from Bach to Bartok , but above all, romantic authors ( Chopin , Schumann ). Most often performed with Nelson Freire , Stephen Kovachevich , Gidon Kremer , Alexander Rabinovich , Misha Maysky , Daniel Barenboim .

In the feature film " Sansa " (2003) appears in the supporting role as an accompanist to Ivry Gitlis .
