Geography

It is located in the headwaters of the Plyussa River ( Narva Basin), 102 km northeast of Pskov , and 176 km south of St. Petersburg , on the St. Petersburg-Pskov highway (highway E95 ( highway M20 ).

It is located practically on the border of the Pskov and Leningrad regions.

History

The village was formed in connection with the construction of a large peat enterprise near the village of the same name , first mentioned in the 15th century . The development of the Zaplyussky Mosses peat deposit began in 1953, in 1955 the construction of the tofropribation and the peat-mining village began, and in 1958 the first tons of peat were sent [2] .

The status of an urban-type settlement (workers' settlement) in Zaplyusye was assigned by a decision of the Pskov Oblast Executive Committee on July 10, 1961 [3] .

Economy

Extraction - peat processing. A narrow gauge railway is used to remove peat from the production site. According to 2010, the existing narrow gauge railway is only in the direction of the peat bog east of the village.
