Biography

Ulyumji Badmaev was born in 1928 at the Privolny state farm of the Ketchenerovsky district of the Kalmyk Autonomous Region. He began his career in 1948. During the deportation of the Kalmyk people, he was exiled to Siberia . After returning to his homeland in 1957 he worked as a tractor driver.

Creativity

Ulyumji Badmaev received the first lessons of the Kalmyk epic from his uncle Mangut Shovgorov in early childhood. In his work of the dzhangarchi, Ulyumji Badmaev adhered to the canonical school of Eelyan Ovla , which did not allow improvisation performed by Dzhangar.
