Story
The beginning of spring navigation on the Ob . The old captain of the tugboat “Brave” does not want to give up the riverman’s favorite job, despite his poor health. He manages to remain captain for another navigation, possibly the last. He offers the management to raft a superheavy raft of twelve thousand cubic meters in size instead of the usual four thousand from the upper Chulym to the Ob and receives consent. A friendly tugboat team after a boring winter gladly goes on a flight. "Brave" goes to the rafting site near Chichka-Yul , where the old friend of the captain, the head of the rafts, lives. The big raft is already ready for rafting and the tugboat begins a difficult journey down the river. The main danger is the Vyatka channel, where the river makes a sharp turn and is sandwiched between steep banks. Hope is only for the special tug maneuver that the captain invented in the winter. At a critical moment, the raft comes close to a steep bank and is ready to touch it, but the captain’s maneuver, designed for the resilience of the raft, works and the superheavy raft successfully overcomes the threshold. However, from excitement, the captain’s heart does not stand up and he loses consciousness ...
