Biography
Princess Maria is the daughter of Prince Adolf of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt , the son of Prince Karl Gunther of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Louise Ulrika of Hesse-Homburg , grandson of Prince Friedrich Karl . Mother - Matilda Schoenburg-Waldenburg. Maria Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt married July 4, 1868 to the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Frederick Franz II , who was 45 years old at the time of the wedding. Maria became his third wife, after the death of Anna of Hesse-Darmstadt , his second wife. Together, the couple had four children:
- Elizabeth Alexandrina (1869-1955) - after marriage, Grand Duchess of Oldenburg.
- Friedrich Wilhelm (1871-1897)
- Adolf Friedrich (1873-1969)
- Henry (1876-1934) - Prince Consort of the Netherlands.
The princess died in The Hague, where she was visiting her son on the occasion of his birthday. Her remains were transported to Germany and buried in the Schwerin Cathedral .
