Kotlas Diocese

The Kotlas diocese is the diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church in the administrative borders of the Velsky , Verkhnetoyemsky , Vilegodsky , Konosha , Kotlas , Krasnoborsky , Lensky , Nyandomsky , Ustyansky and Shenkur districts of the Arkhangelsk region . Included in the Archangel Metropolis .

History

It was established by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on December 27, 2011 by allocating part of the parishes from the Archangel diocese . [2] Administratively included in the Archangel metropolis .

On October 4, 2012, hegumen Vasily (Danilov) , clergyman of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, was elected bishop of Kotlas and Velsky [3] .

The diocesan administration is located in the city of Koryazhma [4] .

Monasteries

Currently, there are no functioning monasteries in the diocese, however, in the past, Orthodox monasteries in this territory were:

  • Varlaamiev Vazhsky Monastery (male; Shenkur district), abolished in 1764
  • Solvychegodsky Vvedensky monastery (male; Solvychegodsk ), closed shortly after the revolution
  • Koryazhemsky Nicholas Monastery (male; Kotlas district), closed in 1918
  • Khristoforova Bogoroditskaya desert (male; the village of Tretyachikha , Kotlas district) was closed in 1764
  • Shenkur Holy Trinity Monastery (female, one time male; Shenkursk ) closed in 1924
    • Makaryevskaya Shenkur desert (female, previously male; Shenkur region), closed after the revolution.
    • Uzdrinskaya desert (female; tract Uzdrinskaya Desert, Velsky district) closed after the revolution.
