Overview
Prior to East Pakistanβs secession, Pakistan βs three major film production centers were located in Lahore , Karachi, and Dhaka . Then Dhaka became the capital of the independent state of Bangladesh . Under the regime of Muhammad Ziya-ul-Haq , video recorders, movie piracy were banned, additional taxes on the production of films were introduced, and stringent Islamic laws hindered the growth of the film industry. Currently, the Pakistani film industry has released into the world one of the most famous and recognized directors, actors and screenwriters in South Asia . However, film piracy is a serious problem and does not contribute to the larger-scale growth of Lollywood [1] .
