Biography
Martin Martens was born in the city of Maastricht on December 8, 1797 .
Martens was a professor of chemistry and botany at Catholic University of Louvain , who specialized in the study and classification of ferns. Together with Henri Guillaume Galeotti (1814-1858), he published a treatise on ferns in Mexico entitled Memoire sur les Fougères du Mexique, et considérations sur la géographie botanique de cette contrée . Martens made a significant contribution to botany by describing many plant species [2] .
Martin Martens died on February 8, 1863 .
