Florist is a specialist in the field of floristry ( interior decoration using floral arrangements), creating bouquets and other products. The florist's place of work is often a flower salon , flower studio or flower workshop. Also, florists are engaged in phytodesign and landscaping.
In addition to fresh flowers, the florist uses dried plants ( flowers , branches, leaves, moss and other natural material) to create compositions. A professional florist, in addition to knowledge of flowers, must possess the general principles of interior design, the art of composition and color .
The Order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation dated July 24, 2009 No. 546 approved the qualification characteristics of the Florist position developed by the Floristic Union of Russia. In pursuance of this decision, the Florist profession was included in the Qualification Directory of the Positions of Managers, Specialists and Other Employees, which means the completion of state registration of this profession. Thus, starting from the day of the announcement of the said order, any state or commercial structure in the country can completely legitimately introduce the positions of “florist”, as well as “florist-designer”, “designer-florist” in their staff (staffing) and florist-phytodesigner. This means that now thousands of people have acquired an official specialty and with it all social guarantees defined by labor legislation.
The state registration of the profession was declared the priority task of the Floristic Union, created in the spring of 2009 by the decision of the First All-Russian Forum of Florists, held in Sochi in November 2008. And the problem, which seemed impregnable for the country's floristic community for more than ten years, was solved by the Floristic Union within three months from the moment of its official registration.
