Biography
Born in an aristocratic family. In 1352 he was a student in Bologna , after giving lectures and preaching in various cities of Italy. He died in 1401.
Known thanks to the book “On the similarity of the life of blessed Francis with the life of Our Lord Jesus Christ” ( lat. De Conformitate Vitae BP Francisco ad Vitam Domini Nostri Jesu Christi , 1399), published in Venice and belonging to the most ancient incunabula . The book, which compares the life of Francis of Assisi with the life of Jesus Christ , became the object of harsh criticism of the Lutherans and Jansenists . Erasmus Alberus wrote a refutation of "Alcoranus Franciscanus" with a preface by Martin Luther (1531). Subsequently, the book experienced the loss and renewed interest in it from Franciscan historians.
In addition to "Conformities", Bartholomew of Pisa is the author of about 30 works.
