History
A trolleybus in the capital of Turkmenistan was opened on October 19, 1964. The movement was opened by ZiU-5 cars along two routes. In subsequent years, the network expanded rapidly - route No. 3 was opened in 1968, route No. 4 in 1969, route No. 5 in 1970, and route No. 6 and 7 were opened in 1971. The last, 8th route was opened in 2000 , and then the network began to decline due to ongoing construction and repairs.
Recently, only one long route No. 1 worked, which connected the opposite ends of the city and made a turn in an hour and a half. Release on it was 22 cars on weekdays and 18 on weekends. Cars went every 4-5 minutes. Route: Depot - st. Agzybirlik - st. Gorogly - st. Tehran - Ave. Makhtumkuli - st. Baba Ananova - Atamurat Niyazov - Car Plant. For other routes, the SC was hanging in many places - the lack of traffic there was due to repairs in the city. In addition, when restoring the network, it was planned to redirect the routes so that they would go as straight as possible (like the current unit). Like, in this way they will be more effective, since it will be possible to quickly get to different parts of the city without looping.
The fare system was unusual and similar to the fare system in Iran. Tickets were bought at a bus stop or from the driver, and at the exit they were given to the driver who threw them into the urn. Travel tickets also existed.
Rolling stock - only Škoda 14TrM . There are 46 of them and they arrived in 2000, receiving the numbers 001-046. Previously, other models worked in the capital:
- ZiU-9 - the exact amount is unknown, but before Skoda arrived, they formed the basis of the park. Decommissioned in 2008. On the territory of the depot there are still a few cars that will be cut.
- ZiU-10 - received in 1996 in the amount of 10 pcs. and worked until 2008. Currently written off and cut.
- LAZ-52522 - in 1996, 4 cars No. 060 - 063 were received. They worked until 2008, decommissioned and cut.
- UMZ T2 - received in 1994, 10 pieces. Initially, they were not adapted to the hot climate of Ashgabat, and were redone by the efforts of the depot workers. Worked until 2008, currently written off and cut.
On the territory of the depot there was still a unique ZiU-5 model in a completely normal body. The remains of YuMZ-T2 and other cut cars are lying in the back of the depot in the form of a small heap that will be removed soon. There are several more living ZiU-9s awaiting cuts. In total, over 250 ZiU vehicles (both 5 and 9) have arrived in the city over the history of Ashgabat.
In 2009, the city received a new 4th-generation trolleybus model, the AKSM-420 Vitovt, for testing, but the car was subsequently returned to the manufacturer.

As of 2011 , the fleet of vehicles was made up exclusively of Škoda 14TrM trolleybuses [1] , which were introduced in 2000 . The purchase of new trolleybuses was funded by the World Bank .
