Main characters
Each of the co-authors of the comic developed their own line. Stephen King wrote the story of the first American vampire - cowboy Skinner Sweet, who is a killer and bank robber from the Wild West . Skinner Sweet differs from European vampires in that he is not afraid of the Sun, and he borrowed his fangs from a rattlesnake .
Scott Snyder wrote the story of the vampire Pearl, a relative of Skinner Sweet. She lives in the era of jazz and Prohibition , dreams of becoming a star , and attends Hollywood illegal drinking establishments and dance halls. [one]
Story
Each of the five issues of American Vampire has two stories — one from King and one from Snyder.
The action described by Stephen King takes place in the 1880s. The main character - a cowboy, a killer and a bank robber, the first American vampire named Skinner Sweet, has fangs, like a rattlesnake. In addition, he not only does not perish from the sun's rays, but also “recharges” from the Sun. The project tells about the different descendants of the "first American vampire" who lived in different periods of American history [2] .
The plot of the comic written by Scott Snyder is based on a vendetta between a glamorous vampire girl named Pearl and a vampire family. Actions take place in 1925 . To create a gloomy atmosphere, the artist used a rough drawing, deliberately meager and somewhat dull coloring of the comic book, and even the time of action, 1925 - the time of the Prohibition in the USA (1920-1933), which strongly emphasizes the oppressive atmosphere [3] .
After five issues made jointly by Snyder and King, King moved away from the project, and Snyder continued the series on his own [2] .
