Biography

Born July 15, 1919 at the station Almaznaya, now the city of the Lugansk region of Ukraine, in a working class family. Russian. He graduated from 8 classes. He worked as a mechanic at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow.

In the Red Army - since 1939 . He graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation School of Pilots ( 1940 ) [1] . On the fronts of World War II from June 1941 . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1942 .

December 15, 1942 was presented to the title Hero of the Soviet Union, but was awarded the Order of the Red Banner [2] .

Squadron commander of the 127th Fighter Aviation Regiment, captain Alexander Savchenko, by July 1943, made 424 sorties, personally shot down 11 in 64 air battles and 15 [3] enemy planes in the group. In total, during the years of the war, he made combat sorties - 493 , air battles - 80 .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 4, 1944 for courage and heroism shown in air battles, Alexander Petrovich Savchenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal.

After the war he served in the USSR Air Force . In 1949 he graduated from the Higher Flight Tactical KUOS. He commanded the 741st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment . Since 1954, Lt. Col. Savchenko - in stock.

He lived in the city of Rostov-on-Don , worked as an engineer in the trust "Stroykonstruktsiya".

He died on April 8, 1988 . He was buried in Rostov-on-Don .

Rewards

  • The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on February 4, 1944 .
  • He was awarded the Order of Lenin, three orders of the Red Banner, two orders of the Patriotic War of 1 degree and medals.

  • The name of the Hero was carried by the pioneer squad of Vaskovskaya high school in the Arkhangelsk region.
