Sam Oulan's ship is anchored in the Caribbean port of Timarindo. After getting drunk on the beach, Sam returns to the ship and discovers that someone has thrown a little boy on board. He decides to take the child to New York and hires a nanny, a girl named Sally Clark. Although Sally actually worked in a dancing hall, she appears to Sam as the daughter of a recently deceased missionary .

During the voyage, she takes care of the child, and Sam protects her from the lustful advances of his team. One night, the captain's assistant, Gaston, recognizes the dancer in Sally and begins to let go. Sally resists, but fortunately the captain comes to the rescue. Having entered into a fight with Gaston, Sam accidentally pushes him overboard. By the time they arrive in America, Sam and Sally fall in love with each other and are about to get married. Soon, however, Sam is summoned to the Department of Commerce, whose officials are conducting an investigation into the fray. It turns out that the assistant did not drown - he was picked up by a ship sailing past, and now he accuses Sam of attempting to kill his life.

To save a loved one, Sally is forced to tell about her unsightly past. Her confession shocks Sam. He chases the girl and, despite her pleas, is going to give the child up for adoption. He sends her things from the ship, asks Gaston for forgiveness, gets drunk with him and that night brings the assistant to the apartment to Sally, wanting to humiliate her. Meanwhile, the servant discovers that the child is sick. He calls Sally, and the girl immediately comes to cure the baby. While she and Sam are caring for the child, love flashes between them again.
