A monument made of bronze shows Fyodor Dostoevsky sitting on a bench, who spent 10 days in Tobolsk in 1850 in a transit prison on the road to penal servitude in Omsk . Next to the writer on the bench are prison shackles and the Gospel , which was presented to him by Natalya Fonvizina, the wife of the Decembrist Mikhail Fonvizin. The writer sits on a rough wooden deck, he has a tired look, and his hands are rude from hard work.

Monument History

The idea to erect a sculpture arose from the head of the Tobolsk Revival Public Charitable Fund, Arkady Grigoryevich Elfimov, who turned to the future author of the monument, Mikhail Pereyaslavts. This idea arose a long time ago, but only in 2007 did it receive physical realization. The charity fund also financed this work.

The place of installation of the monument was approved by members of the historical council of Tobolsk, since Dostoevsky was in this area in the transit point.

The opening ceremony of the monument was attended by the head of the city administration of Tobolsk I.F. Olenberg, the author of the monument M. Pereyaslavets, the director of Zelenstroy-project LLC, the general contractor of the object K. E. Gulevsky, the general design organization for the beautification of the public garden of NTPI TI CJSC Omsk, project chief engineer A. A. Arbuzov. The monument was consecrated by the Archbishop of Tobolsk and Tyumen Dimitri with the participation of the choir of the Tobolsk Orthodox Theological Seminary.

The monument to Dostoevsky was the third work of M. Pereyaslavets in Tobolsk after the monuments to Dunin-Gorkavich and Peter Ershov .
