Arturo Erardo Burkart ( Spanish: Arturo Erhardo Burkart , 1906 - 1975 ) is an Argentinean botanist of German origin, a taxonomy specialist in the legume family.

Biography
Arturo Erardo Burkart was born on September 25, 1906 in the city of Buenos Aires in the family of Norberto Burkart and Olga Rebling. Since 1925 he studied with Lorenzo Raimundo Parodi at the Agricultural School at the University of Buenos Aires . In 1926, Burkart's first work was published, Una forma de Xanthium nueva para la Flora Argentina . In 1928 he graduated from the university with a degree in agricultural engineering. At this time, Burkart begins to study the legume family taxonomy and meets botanist Angel Lulio Cabrera . In 1929 he moved to Germany to study at the Plant Institute ( Münchberg ) and the Kaiser Wilhelm Biological Institute ( Berlin ). In 1930 he returned to Argentina, from 1930 to 1936 he worked as a phytogenetics under L. Parody at the University of Buenos Aires. From 1936 to 1961, Burkart taught at the University of La Plata . In 1936 he became director of the Darwin Botanical Institute. In 1940, Burkart married Nelida Troncoso. In 1938, he was awarded the Eduardo Holmberg Prize. Arturo Burkart passed away on April 25, 1975.
