The mountains of Livingstone are a group of parallel ridges that stretch for 160 km between the Poroto mountains in the north and the Ruhuhu tectonic valley in the south. The highest point is Mount Mmorvey (2961 m). The mountains are composed mainly of granites and gneisses . The amount of precipitation usually does not exceed 2000 mm. The slopes of the mountains are covered with savannas and leafless forests in the dry season; mountain tops dominate the peaks.
The mountains were named after the Scottish traveler David Livingstone .
