Nassim Nicholas Taleb wrote The Bed of Procrustes: Philosophical and Practical Aphorisms . Interestingly, in a Hebrew publication this book is called The Bed of Sodom. In the book of Genesis Genesis. 18 describes God's decision to destroy the city of Sodom with all its inhabitants for their sins. There is a legend [1] that there was a special bed in Sodom for wanderers. In the middle of the night, when the wanderer fell asleep, the Sodomites crept up to him and cut off his legs if he turned out to be longer than the bed. If it is shorter, then his limbs were pulled. There is a corresponding explanation in the preface to the book.
