Basis - the name of a number of historical places in the south of the city of Kharkov . The name appeared in the 2nd half of the 17th century , when a suburban settlement was founded, and later the village of Osnova by the family of the Sloboda foreman Donets-Zakharzhevsky, later sold to the elders family Kvitok.

In the last third of the 19th century, the territory of the city of Kharkov approached the village of Osnova and the land of Kvitok on the right bank of the Lopan River ("Arabia"), acquired by the Kharkov City Duma. A number of streets were laid here, preserving the former ownership of the land - ul. Kvitkinska and Osnovyanskaya street.

At the end of the 19th century, the Malaya Osnova suburb appeared, located between the Novoselovka locality and the Novoselovka railway station.

In 1908, Osnova station was founded, near which a working village of railway workers appeared, serving the station and the engine depot, founded in 1911. Part of the land was bought by the residents of the village of Osnova, and the housing built here was leased.

In the 1920s, the village of Osnova and the village of Osnova became part of the city of Kharkov. According to cartographic sources of 1938, the territory of Osnova was called the Big Osnova, and the village of Osnova was called Osnova . The names of the Small and Old Foundations are not shown on the maps.

In the post-war period, after the opening of the October tram depot and the terminal station of the Novozhanovo tram (near the railway station of the same name), the area gradually received the general name Novozhanovo .
