Career

Jaroslav Kristek began his professional career in 1997 as a member of the Czech Zest Extraliga 's Zlín native club, previously playing for his farm club. In his debut season, Yaroslav spent 37 matches on the site, gaining 10 (2 + 8) points. The following year, in the NHL draft, he was selected in round 2 under the general 50 number by the Buffalo Sabers club [2] , and in the draft of the Canadian Hockey League he was already selected in round 1 under the general 4 number by the Tri-City Americans club [ 3] .

Before the start of the 1998/99 season, Kristek decided to go to North America, where he began to play as part of the “Tri-City” in the Western Hockey League . In his first season overseas, Yaroslav managed to score 93 (42 + 51) points in 82 matches played, adding 51 (26 + 25) points in 47 games of the 1999/00 season, due to which he was offered a contract with the Buffalo system .

Thus, Yaroslav began the 2000/01 season as part of the Sabers farm club Rochester Americans , where over the next two years he could not show a decent game, gaining an average of less than ten points per season. Nevertheless, in the 2002/03 season, he finally reached the previous level, scoring 32 (15 + 17) points in 47 matches. Moreover, on January 10, 2003, Kristek made his debut in the NHL against the Boston Bruins . In total that season, he played 6 matches in the “blades”, without gaining a single point, and spending more than 11 minutes on the court per game.

Despite this, before the start of the new season, Yaroslav decided to return to his homeland, signing a contract with Prague Sparta [4] . Nevertheless, having undergone pre-season training with the club, just before the start of the tournament he became a Ceske Budejovice player [5] , as a part of which he eventually scored 29 (15 + 14) points in 56 matches held. However, for the club itself, the season ended unsuccessfully - it took the last place and left the elite division, immediately after which Kristek concluded an agreement with his native “Zlin” [6] . In the same year, Yaroslav for the first time in his career climbed the podium of Czech championships, winning silver medals.

At Zlín, Kristek played for three and a half seasons, gaining 45 (22 + 23) points in 147 matches during this time. In the middle of the 2006/07 season, Yaroslav moved to the Energy club [7] , with whom in 2009 he became the country's champion. As part of the Karlovy Vary team, in 190 matches he managed to score 82 (46 + 36) points, however, on January 26, 2010 , unexpectedly for many, he was exchanged back to Zlin for David Nosek [8] .

Before the start of the 2010/11 season, Yaroslav went to the training camp of the Lev Poprad , which was supposed to make his debut in the Continental Hockey League that year, but after it became known that the team was removed from the list of participants [9] , he left the club and signed a contract with the Slovak club “Kosice” [10] . As part of his new club, Kristek became the country's champion, scoring 59 (19 + 40) points in 69 matches, after which he returned to Lev [11] , which was finally admitted to the KHL. On September 12, 2011, in a match against Magnitogorsk Metallurg , Yaroslav made his debut in the league [12] , and a month later in the game against Novokuznetsk Metallurg he scored his first goal in the KHL.

On February 1, 2012, Kristek, having spent 39 matches for Leo by that time, and having scored 16 (10 + 6) points, was again leased to Kosice [13] .
