History

Formed on December 6, 1941 by transforming the 155th Fighter Aviation Regiment .

As part of the army from February 20, 1942 to July 14, 1942, from September 23, 1942 to March 4, 1943 and from June 1, 1943 to May 1, 1945.

At the time of the formation of the regiment in service were LaGG-3 . He continued his combat activities in the Volkhov region, operating throughout the Volkhov Front , over Myasniy Bor , Lyuban , Pogost , Kirishi , Spasskaya Polisty , Sinyavino .

July 14, 1942 was assigned to reorganization, staffing and training in Kuznetsk , then to Moscow , where in September 1942 he received La-5 fighters. Sent to the Kalinin front in the area of ​​the Hill , where he continued training already in combat conditions.

November 5, 1942 was quickly subordinated to the 8th Air Army and flew to the region of Stalingrad . [1] . With the beginning of the counterattack near Stalingrad, it provides air cover for the strike force of the 51st Army , the 13th Panzer and 4th Mechanized Corps, advancing in the direction of the village of Sovetskiy , and then the troops of the 2nd Guards Army [2] .

Near Stalingrad, in particular, patrols airspace in order to intercept enemy transport aircraft delivering food, ammunition to the Stalingrad boiler and taking the wounded from there. So, on December 11, 1942, together with the pilots of the 273rd Fighter Regiment, the regiment shot down 18 enemy planes traveling from Kotelnikovo through the Zetas to Nariman .

Enemy planes shot down by pilots of the regiment were marked in areas in November 1942 in the areas of Karpovskaya , Buzinovka , Nursery , in December 1942 Alekseyevka, Basargino, Stalingrad , in January 1942 Zelenyaya Roscha , Alytuba . From January 1943 to March 1943 he fought for the liberation of Rostov , distinguished himself in battles. On May 4, 1943, by order of the NCO No. 207, the regiment was given its own name β€œRostov-Don” and the regiment was the only military unit of the USSR armed forces that had such a name.

On March 4, 1943, it was put into reserve, in May 1943 it flew to the Kuban , where from June 1, 1943 it took part in the final air battles in the Kuban , planes shot down by the regiment were recorded in the areas of Kiev, Moldavansk, Abinsk , and Crimean .

During the Battle of Kursk, it conducts battles and accompanies attack aircraft in the areas of Tomarovka , Oboyan , then acts during the subsequent Belgorod-Kharkov operation , planes shot down by the regiment were recorded in the areas of Akhtyrka , Bogodukhov , Belgorod .

In September-November 1943, he conducts battles mainly in the Kiev region , operates over Kiev , Gornostaypol , Ulyanikov , Lipov Horn . In January-February 1944, he took part in the defeat of the Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya enemy group, for example, on February 1, 1944, fighter regiments escorted six attack aircraft to the area of ​​the Korsun-Shevchenkovskaya station. In March-April 1944 he took part in the Proskurovsky-Chernivtsi operation , in the summer of 1944 - in the Lviv-Sandomierz operation , in particular, he worked on Stryi .

From September 9, 1944 until the end of October 1944, it provided the activities of the 224th assault air division , which, in turn, supported the air offensive of the 1st Guards Army through the Carpathians from the area southeast of the city of Sanok to the cities of Baligrud , Snina , Michailovce . From January 1, 1945 until the end of February 1945, it fights for Kosice , in particular covering for attack aircraft of the 208th Assault Aviation Regiment [1] , then for Poprad , Brezno , in March-April 1945 it operates over Moravian Ostrava , where on May 1 1945 ended the war. In April 1945 he received La-7 aircraft.

The 3rd Guards Fighter Aviation Rostov-Don Red Banner Regiment and is currently part of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, is based in Zernograd , armed with the Su-27 .

Summary of the post-war fate of the regiment

In May 1946, as part of the 15th Guards Fighter Aviation Division of the 10th, IAC was transferred from the 8th Air Army to the 14th Air Army of the Carpathian Military District. In 1949, together with the 15th Guards Fighter Aviation Division, he was transferred from the 14th Air Army of the Carpathian Military District to the 20th Via Air Defense (Orel). One of the first to master the MiG-9 fighter jets . In October 1950, as part of the 15th Guards Fighter Aviation Division, he arrived in the PRC to carry out air defense missions in China and organize the training of Chinese pilots using jet technology. In 1952, as part of a division from the PRC, he was redeployed to the Moscow Air Defense District. April 2, 1960 disbanded in the Moscow Air Defense District.
